As you embark on your educational journey at Nightingale college, you will find yourself immersed in a dynamic learning environment that extends beyond the classroom.
One distinctive feature of our curriculum is participation in DFCS that are located throughout the country, regardless of where you live, you may be required to travel to assigned Sophie sites located anywhere in the United States.
Travel may be scheduled at any time during the semester. Learners who are traveling will receive notification of their Sophie schedules two to four weeks before the tentative start date and one month before their DFCS.
Learners are generally responsible to pay for transportation and lodging expenses associated with Sophie travel.
If you would like assistance with your travel arrangements, our travel partner, student universe is available to help go to Student universe.com to connect with the travel agent.
If you choose to make travel arrangements yourself, we recommend refundable travel options or travel insurance.
It's an extra expense.
But if you face situations beyond your control, such as faculty illness or weather related cancelations, you'll be glad you have it.
Here are a few tips for getting the best travel prices comparison shop.
Look for bargains, not just from airlines and hotels, but from different airports.
Often regional airports are cheaper than international airports. Book as early as possible.
As soon as you know where and when you're going, start searching for options.
If you have flexible date options, check those dates too. You can often find the best prices early to midweek, two to four weeks prior to your trip. Research hotels.
Look for a place that has a laundry room to wash your clothes in the hotel so you don't have to check a bag.
Also look for simple food establishments nearby so you know you'll have food within walking distance.
Read reviews and scope out the area online to get a feel for the hotel's safety. Use travel sites or travel services for flights.
Book directly through the airline for flight points and save them for a future flight.
Some travel sites often allow you to accumulate points as well, and they may count towards any part of your travel memberships to Costco, Sam's Club or AAA can help you save money on your hotel and car rental.
Look for ways to skip the car rental.
If your hotel is near the facility where you will be doing your clinicals, consider not getting a car at all.
A Walk in the morning can wake you up. And a walk after your shift can help you decompress.
Then you just need a shuttle or an Uber to and from the airport.
I have had a great experience in going.
I've been to Colorado Springs and Florida, and now I'm going to Erie, Pennsylvania, and it I wouldn't normally go to those places necessarily, unless it was through this travel, traveling with the college.
So it's been fun, actually, and I've gotten to meet a lot of great people, and I've had some really good experiences, so it's been a lot of fun while travel can sometimes feel disruptive.
It can also be exciting and rewarding.
Remember, the immersive experiences at these DFC sites will be instrumental in shaping you into a well rounded and adaptable nurse ready to make a positive impact in healthcare.
