    Learning Model

Dive into the innovative world of nursing education!

This video explores our unique concept-based learning model, highlighting the fully online didactic courses and interactive modules.

As you've probably figured out by now, getting a degree at Nightingale is a bit different from other nursing schools.

In this video, you'll get an overview of our learning model. You'll learn how your classes will be set up, and we'll discuss some of the reasons why we take this approach.

As you may know, traditional nursing programs are failing to meet many of the challenges that face our communities and the healthcare industry at large in the 21st century.

Some of those challenges include significant nursing shortages, long waiting lists to get into nursing school, access to education for minority, underserved and rural populations, barriers for those who need to work while attending school and many more at Nightingale, we strive to face these challenges head on, as we pursue our vision of better health and better humanity for a better world, instead of attending classes in person, all of that didactic learning will take place entirely online.

Perhaps an even more fundamental difference in our educational model is that we take a concept based approach to nursing education, unlike more traditional learning models, which concentrate on the ability to recall specific facts, conceptual learning focuses on understanding broader principles and ideas that can be applied to a variety of specific situations.

Concept based learning is where, instead of your traditional learning, where you take all of the pieces and it leads you to a big idea.

In concept of space learning, we flip it around.

You learn the big idea first, and then you learn all of the pieces that make that big idea work.

The concepts are then repeated in several courses, and then the specific examples are customized based on the course content that you are learning at that moment.

The main benefit is that you're actually learning about the concept, so that when you see a patient, you understand the concept, and you can quickly assess and understand if that concept applies to what you're seeing in your patient, versus learning about every disease process, learning about every treatment for said disease process, and then learning about, you know, how people could potentially react to a disease process that results in rote memorization because you're trying to assimilate so much information that you're just ticking the boxes like, okay, I get it.

    I know this.

And then what happens is, our brains don't store that information, you know it enough for the test, and then kind of evacuate with concept based learning.

You learn the concepts, and then you're able to apply those concepts in any type of healthcare setting.

There are no traditional lectures at Nightingale.

Instead, you will immerse yourself in our interactive learning modules.

These modules will guide you through applying the knowledge you've gained from your reading and studies in a variety of ways, and then prompt you to engage with that content.

You'll also take graded quizzes to ensure you've fully comprehended and internalize the concepts you'll need to succeed.

You'll have the flexibility to complete reading assignments and engage with modules, case studies and discussion boards when it's convenient for you at any time before the established learning unit completion deadline.

I have four boys, 210 year olds and two eight year olds. I coach their baseball.

    I work full time.

My husband travels for work, and so sometimes it's just me and to have the flexibility has been, I mean, a game changer, because I can do it when I have the time.

Along with this didactic learning, each semester, you'll participate in clinical rotations or DFCS, where you'll be embedded in healthcare facilities and engage with real patients and real nursing situations.

Nightingale college conducts supervised on ground field experiences or Sophies across the country, and you'll be required to travel to some of these locations.

Learners meet at Sophie facilities for the practical application of theories and skills you acquire through online didactic learning.

Learning schedules are subject to change, and they are not entirely in the college's control.

Our healthcare service partners may at any time, cancel, change or reschedule your shifts.

The college makes every effort to notify learners in advance of scheduled changes, but sometimes you'll have to be ready to adjust to at a moment's notice, the staff and faculty of Nightingale college are committed to connecting with each learner on a personal level to facilitate learning.

We offer smaller clinical groups during DFCS that allow instructors to spend more time individually with each learner, we get to experience different atmospheres of nursing.

Even though I work in nursing, I still learn things when I go to these places. And the instructors are amazing.

They're always offering different education ways of like learning or going over stuff you know, to get us prepared for testing. It's I like it.

Once you graduate, you'll need to pass the NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse, because we're committed to your success, Nightingale continues to support its learners with study tools and NCLEX coaching while you're enrolled and even after you graduate, to help ensure you pass your NCLEX exam.

Coaches provide tools and resources that include but are not limited to group study sessions, individual tutoring based on hesi and NCLEX areas of need, NCLEX fee reimbursement and the Saunders NCLEX are in comprehensive review study guide.

We encourage all of our learners to take advantage of these unique and helpful tools.

The bulk of what I do is directed towards our grads, and specifically those grads who have been struggling passing the NCLEX, I want our grads to know that they are not alone.

    They're not forgotten.

    I'm here for you.

    Please reach out.

Let's get together, and let's get you let's get your cross finish line.

Nightingale college really is different from other nursing schools.

We hope you'll find it's a good fit for you.
