Prepare the sterile field as shown in the video skill, Establishing and Maintaining a Sterile Field. When you're ready to add a sterile item to your sterile field, follow the instructions on the package to open it. Place the sterile item on to the sterile field at an angle. Ensure that the wrapper did not fall down and contaminate the sterile field. Discard the outer wrapper of each sterile item. If not already wearing sterile gloves, perform hand hygiene and don sterile gloves to handle the sterile supplies once they are on the sterile field.
